I was just sitting here thinking about the absurdity of the fact that I responded to anything Adam Newbold has to say about anyone at this point after publishing my last post…and I started laughing out loud. Why in the hell did I feel the need to respond to that shit? Nothing I said was controversial except in Far Left social media, which frankly is as nutty as Far Right social media with an equal dose of self-righteousness on both sides. Had this discussion with Manton before and should never have stooped so low. It’s like I scraped some old gum off a city street and decided to eat it. Shame on me.

Bix wrote it best about this guy:

I’ve said all along that I find the stridency with which he goes after the micro.blog crew to be unseemly. This is true even when the substance of his criticism is correct, like it is in the case of Reece’s defense of Bluesky’s CEO and CTO. The problem is that he can’t let go, and he appears to be so committed to the rush of the bit that now he’s just lashing out willy-nilly for no good reason whatsoever.

And more succinctly:

Allies don’t strut.

Nuff said. And no more street gum.

I’ve been made aware that on a certain indieweb platform that I have been called an “ICE apologist” (😂) for saying here on micro.blog that as bad as ICE is, they aren’t as bad as the Gestapo (the popular comparison on social media). Newsflash: two things can be bad at the same time while one is far worse. I’m a big fan of the idea that words actually mean things and we shouldn’t just be throwing terms around without understanding what they mean. Being emotional isn’t a reason. Others doing it isn’t either.

I’m well aware of what ICE is doing (especially in my hometown). That said, I’d suggest people go and refresh themselves on what the Gestapo was (Wikipedia is a great start), their methods, and their participation in the Holocaust…and then stop making the false equivalence. We aren’t even close to being there and let’s hope we never are. If we are we won’t be having cute little arguments on social media about who should get the “Most Welcoming Indieweb Platform” award.

And a final note: glad that micro.blog is run by someone with a level head on their shoulders (@manton). Glad to be here.

I can’t believe the social.lol crew is at it again. But hey Adam has decided to create his own analytics thing. Lordy these folks.

Getting really, really tired of people throwing around terms like “Nazi” and “Gestapo” like they mean nothing. ICE is bad. ICE is nowhere close to the Gestapo. Please stop using these names like they don’t mean anything.

Making decisions at night, after a full day of being beaten down, maybe isn’t the best idea. I should not be making decisions like that at that time of day. They always seem right, because the mind is calm. But the “calm” is just exhaustion. After a good night’s sleep I am, yet again, rethinking those decisions.

And on the nostalgia-for-Twitter thing: Twitter was a cesspool for quite a long time prior to Elon Musk buying it. He made it worse but a cesspool is still a cesspool. Let’s rethink this idea that somehow up until Musk bought it that it was fine. It was not.

Putting this out there because I keep running into it and it’s annoying the hell out of me: it’s X now, not Twitter. It hasn’t been Twitter in years. I keep seeing references to Twitter in updated documentation for recent apps that are connecting to it. This notion of “I’m not calling it X because Elon Musk” is ridiculous, especially if you’re running a business that has an app that connects to it for data. He owns the thing and he renamed it. Grow up already.
